SPECIAL NEEDS FUND

Everyone who officially becomes a member of Kenya Kids International helps to support our sponsored students and their families with special needs. Your membership fees provide food, medicine, clothing and shelter for needy families. Specific donations for Special Needs are also most welcome.

The challenges are great and currently KKI has only been able to help our sponsored students and their immediate families. In time we hope to support other families with special needs but this depends on more people becoming members of KKI and/or making a donation

SPECIAL NEEDS CASE STUDY

Pherdinand lives with his mother and 6 siblings in a mud hut in a rural area with no modern conveniences or electricity. His father Robert lives 9 hours away where he seeks work as a casual labourer. With the cost of living away from home, little money reaches his family. The family lives below the poverty line, relying on their mother Jesca, to earn an income by collecting firewood from the nearby hills and selling it at the local market.

From the age of 4 Pherdinand had frequent seizes on a daily basis. Initially his mother Jesca took Pherdinand to the local hospital. Pherdinand was diagnosed with Epilepsy but was told medication was unavailable. Being in extreme poverty Jesca did not pursue other alternatives believing she could not afford frequent visits to doctors or the ongoing cost of medication.

When Rob and Rikki met Pherdinand he was 12 years old. On hearing about his situation they arranged for Pherdinand and his mother to visit the local mission hospital to be assessed and prescribed medication. KKI paid for the consultation and the first month’s medication. After speaking with Jesca it was agreed she could afford the monthly cost of US$2 for Pherdinand’s medication.

4 months later Rikki checked on Pherdinand’s progress and was pleased to hear that he was still on medication, had experienced no adverse side effects and his seizures were a thing of the past. Perdinand was all smiles, as his quality of life had improved greatly.

Please donate to the Special Needs Fund and help children like Pherdinand improve their quality of life.
